Expectations of Faculty Participants

Posted on
  1. Recruit a colleague from your institution to work with you on this project, preferably someone who teaches or supervises a laboratory course. Participants will consist of a team of two from each institution.
  2. Attend a 3 day workshop at Emory University with your team member to learn how to implement a fully developed bean beetle microbiome CURE in an undergraduate biology laboratory course.
  3. Implement the new bean beetle microbiome CURE in one section of a biology laboratory course and teach it for at least two semesters (two different laboratory sections total).  Implementation will require that your institution provide equipment required to conduct basic microbiology and genetics studies (PCR thermocycler, autoclave, electrophoresis minigel tray and power supply, micropipetters, and basic expendable supplies).
  4. You agree to implement the bean beetle microbiome CURE as a half-semester curriculum (7-weeks) or for as long as a full-semester (14-weeks) curriculum change.
  5. Seek IRB approval at your institution for the collection of research survey data from students as directed by the project PIs.
  6. Provide survey data to the PIs in a timely manner at the end of each semester and participate in interviews or focus groups, if requested.
  7. Submit the research data collected by your students to the project PIs at the end of each semester.
